Rokel Commercial Bank (RCB) is today one of the most progressive commercial banks in Sierra Leone as a result of reforms that were initiated and instituted by its current Managing Director, Dr Ekundayo Walton Gilpin, transforming it to become a very effective and efficient banking institution that regained the confidence of business owners, investors, traders and other corporate institutions in the country.
The Rokel Commercial Bank, it is an open secret was really collapsing due to poor management until this brilliant son of the soil was appointed as its Managing Director who wasted no time to inject sound policies that have led to this admirable transformation, evident in the opening of more branches even in hard to reach areas, the digitization of banking operations all geared towards scaling up financial inclusion.
However, from what this medium learnt it seems that with the positive transformation taking place under the leadership of Dr Ekundayo Gilpin there are some of his colleagues who are deeply dissatisfied that he is taking the credit. Also, it was understood that these allegedly unscrupulous individuals think they should not be reprimanded by the Managing Director for doing certain untoward things that are against laid down policies.
They strongly believe that they are above reprimand assuming that the Rokel Commercial Bank is their personal property and should be run according to their whims and caprices with one of them for a long time now enviously eyeing the position of Managing Director which he thinks he has the right to occupy.
These individuals, it is alleged, have formed what has been dubbed The Evil Trinity and include the bank’s Deputy Managing Director, Emmanuel Borbor, the Company Secretary/ Legal Officer of the bank, Margret Davies nee Kamara and Abdul Rahman Mahdi, the Business Development Director at the bank. All three of them have allegedly ganged up to discredit the current Managing Director by coming up with unsubstantiated allegations against him aimed at denting his integrity and portray him as a molester, a tyrant at the bank in very evil ways.
It is alleged that Emmanuel Borbor has been on this back stabbing for a very long time now with little success but not satisfied of having achieved his diabolical plan has still not relented but waiting for any slight opportunity to launch a fresh attack.
In the case of Abu Bakarr Mahdi it is also alleged his transfer from the Treasury of the Bank to another post within the same bank did not go down well with him as he was purportedly enriching himself in that position through dubious ways. Besides, influential customers of the bank were complaining that he is too arrogant and were threatening to quit the bank if his attitude did not improve.
With Margret Davies nee Kamara she is alleged to be very unequal to her task at the bank. She cannot, as assumed, convincingly prove that she is a capable and professional lawyer, who should be in a position to adequately represent the bank in litigations. For her, she demanded to be promoted to the position of Senior Director to which the Board and Management of the bank disapproved considering her professional inabilities. Since that time she became bitter and vowed to teach the current Managing Director a caustic lesson claiming that he is responsible for not achieving her dream.
Prior to that, one of her close friends, who is not in sync with her in her diabolical plan, revealed to this medium that she used to work very close with the Managing Director at the helm of the bank.
Translating the evil plan that she has nurtured Margret Davies lately made an allegation against the Managing Director of sexual harassment stating that there are phone evidences of unofficial chats which she said the MD made advances to her since 2017 calling that sexual harassment in 2022 only after she did not get the Director position.
As part of her plan, the woman lodged that complaint to a seasoned Lawyer in the country, Roland Wright, who in turn acted in good faith by verbally informing the Bank of Sierra Leone to at least talk to the MD about the 2017 issues raised.
As all this was going on, The Evil Trinity put together a write-up that is circulating on Social Media painting the MD in a bad light and even going to the extent of making serious insinuations and accusations against the Board Chairman, Buffy Bailor portraying him as cheap and protecting the MD.
For argument’s sake let us assume that the Managing Director proposed an unofficial friendship to Margret Davies, what is the big deal about that. The work relationship has been professional ever since. But to use what transpired since 2017 against the MD in 2022 when a position is not granted smells of something very fishy. To any serious minded individual, her latest move could only be interpreted as a calculated ploy to stab the MD on the back out of her conviction that he is the stumbling block to her ambition of becoming a Director at the bank.
It is this red meat that has rekindled Emmanuel Borbor’s diabolic intention to occupy the seat as Managing Director of the Bank and therefore instigating Margret to take the matter to higher authorities.
As for Abdul Rahman Mahdi it is an opportunity to nab the MD for facilitating his transfer from the Treasury – although he has been promoted to Director ever since under the leadership of the same MD? So they have formed what is allegedly known as The Evil Trinity.
As far as this medium is concerned The Board Chairman is an influential personality who cannot go down so low as he is being portrayed and a good number of people in and out of this country knows that.
The matter is now before that Board but at the end of the day it is the truth that will last and it must not be forgotten that the Evil that men do lives after them. More on this in subsequent editions.
