Director General of EGTC Denies Fuel Theft Allegations

Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Director General of the Electricity Generation and Transmission Company (EGTC), Ing. Milton Ngegbai, has vehemently denied allegations of fuel theft within the institution, calling the rumors unfounded and misleading.

During a parliamentary committee hearing held in Committee Room No.1 on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, Ngegbai addressed concerns raised by Hon. Kekura Vandi, Chairman of the Energy Committee. Vandi had highlighted widespread claims of fuel theft within EGTC and called on the DG to clarify the situation.

In his response, DG Ngegbai explained that the machines used by EGTC operate with specific fuel consumption benchmark’s set by their manufacturers, and the company maintains proper documentation to verify fuel usage. He stressed that any perceptions of theft were inaccurate.

“We use two types of fuel at EGTC. For continuous power generation, we use heavy fuel oil, which cannot be tampered with. For cold starts-start-and-stop operations we use a small amount of diesel, which is clean fuel,” he stated.

Ngegbai further clarified that the quantity of diesel used is minimal and fully accounted for, dismissing the theft claims as baseless. “I don’t understand where these rumors are coming from,” he added. “But I want to make it clear: there is no fuel theft at EGTC.”

The hearing concluded with Ngegbai reaffirming EGTC’s commitment to transparency and accountability in its operations.
