Chief Minister Sengeh Calls for Unity and Inclusion Ahead of Sierra Leone’s Independence Day

Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. Ahead of Sierra Leone’s 64th Independence Day celebrations this Sunday, Chief Minister Dr. David Moinina Sengeh has shared a message of hope, unity, and progress.

In his statement, Dr. Sengeh said he is hopeful about the future of the country, crediting President Julius Maada Bio’s focus on human capital development. He said young people are being equipped to take leadership and solve national problems.

“Young people will fix this country, and that’s why they are being equipped to do so,” he said. “Over 60% of the population is under 30 years. Inclusive quality education is more accessible today. More youth are in legislature, judiciary, and executive.”

Dr. Sengeh, who became Chief Minister at age 36, also shared that he has held senior government roles since the age of 31. He said while the country is not perfect, the government is working hard to move forward during difficult times.

He called for national reflection, prayer, and stronger commitment to unity. He said progress requires everyone to be involved, both as problem solvers and as those who benefit from the changes.

“We need radical inclusion,” he said. “That’s our commitment to action, and we need your hands on deck. We are a movement of change makers and change doers. We are Muslim, Christian, traditionalist, young, old, male, female, etc. We will deliver.”

Sierra Leone will mark its 64th Independence Day on Sunday, April 27.
