Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Minister of Lands, Housing, and Country Planning, Dr. Turad Senesie has presented the National Country Planning Bill to the Parliament of Sierra Leone.
The presentation, which took place Tuesday marks a significant step towards establishing a comprehensive framework for national land use and spatial development in the country.
The bill aligns with the government’s commitment to promote sustainable development and orderly urbanization nationwide. It aims to establish clear policies and regulations governing land use planning, zoning, and infrastructural development.
Addressing Parliament, Minister Senesie emphasized the crucial role of a well-structured national planning system in supporting economic growth, environmental sustainability, and an improved quality of life for Sierra Leoneans. He noted that the legislation would also facilitate better coordination and the devolution of functions among government agencies, local authorities, and other stakeholders involved in land management.
Dr. Senesie stated that the National Country Planning Bill, upon ratification, is expected to serve as a vital legal instrument to address challenges associated with rapid urbanization, unplanned settlements, and land conflicts.
He further stressed the commitment of the Ministry of Lands, Housing, and Country Planning to collaborate closely with Parliament and all relevant stakeholders to ensure the successful passage and implementation of this critical legislation. The Ministry also encourages public engagement and feedback as part of the ongoing consultative process leading to the bill’s enactment.
