Referees Committee Chairman Alhaji M. A. Sesay Resigns Citing Political Interference and Lack of Support

Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Chairman of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) Referees Committee, Alhaji M. A. Sesay, has resigned, alleging political interference and lack of support from the SLFA leadership.

His resignation, dated May 12, 2025, comes in the wake of serious allegations made by five FIFA-badged referees regarding the integrity of officiating in the country.

In his resignation letter, Sesay expressed concerns about the SLFA leadership’s actions, which he claims have undermined the independence of the Referees Committee.

He pointed out violations of FIFA regulations concerning referee appointments and highlighted the obstruction of efforts aimed at enhancing refereeing standards in Sierra Leone.

The claims echoed earlier assertions made by the referees, who reported feeling pressured by Referees Manager Franklyn Marah to favor the president’s team, Wilberforce Strikers, during matches.

They also alleged that they were instructed to penalize teams perceived as opponents of the current football administration.
