Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Commissioner Francis Ben Kaifala Esq. delivered a compelling call to action during a public integrity lecture in Kabala, emphasizing that combating corruption requires collective public engagement.
The event, organized by Corruption Watch Sierra Leone under the theme “Citizens’ Ownership of the Fight Against Corruption,” drew a diverse audience including traditional leaders, civil society representatives, students and local residents.
Addressing attendees at the Kabala District Council Hall, Commissioner Kaifala stressed the importance of citizen vigilance, coining a memorable Krio phrase: “Wae u see something, na for say something.”
He provided clear explanations of corruption offenses outlined in the Anti-Corruption Act 2008 (as amended in 2019) and assured the public of the Commission’s commitment to enforcing the law without fear or favor.
“Fighting corruption is a collective duty. The law is clear, and no one is above it,” Kaifala declared.
The Commissioner’s message received strong endorsement from local leaders. Paramount Chief Gbawuru Mansaray III of Wara Wara Yagala chiefdom praised Kaifala’s outreach efforts, describing him as a trailblazer in anti-corruption advocacy.
“Justice and integrity must be the standards for all leaders, and I fully support the Commissioner’s work,” the Chief stated. Lawrence Teteh Kargbo, Chairman of the Koinadugu District Council, highlighted the lecture’s value in educating citizens about their role in maintaining integrity.
This engagement forms part of Commissioner Kaifala’s nationwide integrity campaign aimed at fostering social accountability and strengthening anti-corruption efforts across Sierra Leone.
