Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. Deputy Minister of Energy 1, Edmond Nonie, following the ongoing financial saga between the Sierra Leone government and Karpowership, has reportedly revealed that the government has paid the company $320 million between 2018 and 2025.

Despite those payments, as alleged by the Deputy Minister, Karpowership claims that the government still owes them an additional $70 million.

The Deputy Minister’s remarks came in light of Karpowership’s recent announcement that it plans to halt electricity supply to the City of Freetown tonight due to the government’s failure to settle its outstanding bills.

Karpowership has clearly stated that they will restore full electricity supply to Sierra Leone once 30% of the country’s unpaid bills are cleared.

The electricity company perates a floating power plant, known as a Powership, which supplies electricity directly to the national grid. The company has been a significant contributor to Sierra Leone’s energy supply since its operations began.

In a recent interview, Karpowership’s Commercial Operations Director, Emre Durmusoglu, expressed the company’s commitment to Sierra Leone’s energy needs.

He emphasized the positive experiences the company has had working with local authorities and praised the hospitality and strong community spirit in the country.
