Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Parliament of Sierra Leone has on Tuesday, July 1st, 2025, approved ten presidential nominees following the Thirteenth Report of the Committee on Appointments and Public Service, chaired by Hon. Mathew Sahr Nyuma, the Leader of Government Business.

The nominees were presented to the plenary after being interviewed on June 30, 2025, at the Parliament Building in Freetown.

The approved nominees include Mr. Abu Bockarie Kokofele as Director General of the National Social Protection Authority, Mr. Prince Bernard Comatech Cotay, Mr. Mohamed Kpana-Gbato Kemokai, Mr. Alhaji Alie Badara Yillah, Mr. Prince Terenah Quee, and Mr. Kalie Sallue Samura, all members of the Statistics Sierra Leone Council.

Mr. Brima Baluwa Koroma was appointed as Director General of the National Petroleum Regulatory Authority, with Mr. Michael Hallie Kendoh as Chairman. Mr. Brima Abdulai Sheriff was named Chairman of the National Commission for Persons with Disability, and Mr. Josiah Murphy Kargobai was appointed as a member of the Sierra Leone Water Company (SALWACO).

During the presentation, Hon. Nyuma emphasized that the nominees were thoroughly vetted, focusing on their experiences, track records, tax obligations, asset declarations, and visions for their respective roles.

He stated, “The Report reflects the unanimous views of the Committee,” ensuring that all aspects of the nominees’ qualifications were critically assessed.

The Deputy Leader of Government Business, Hon. Bashiru Silikie, seconded the motion, expressing gratitude to President Bio for the appointments. He asserted that the nominees’ performance would serve as a scorecard for their re-election and urged them to serve the people of Sierra Leone diligently.

“The failure of nominees to serve the people through development would affect the re-election of Members of Parliament and government,” he warned.

Several Members of Parliament (MPs) voiced their support for the nominees. Hon. Williams Lamin from Bo District described them as distinguished personalities and urged them to maintain a close relationship with the public. Hon. Emelia Lolloh Tongi from Kailahun stressed the importance of contributing to nation-building and advised the nominees to conduct robust oversight on fuel dealers.

Hon. Saa Emerson Lamina from Kono District thanked President Bio and encouraged the nominees to work diligently to ensure the government’s retention in power. He noted the importance of self-evaluation and suggested that nominees learn from successful practices in other countries.

Hon. Boston Munda from Kenema District expressed appreciation for Mr. Kokofele’s reappointment and praised his experience. Meanwhile, Hon. Ing. Falah Tengbeh cautioned the nominees against personalizing their offices and urged them to address social protection issues effectively.

In his concluding remarks, Hon. Nyuma thanked his colleagues for their contributions and clarified that a petition against Mr. Sheriff was unfounded. He reiterated the government’s commitment to positive transformation in national offices, particularly highlighting Mr. Baluwa Koroma’s contributions to the petroleum sector.

In a related evolvement, the Parliament also ratified the ‘African Road Safety Charter’ on the same day, a motion presented by Deputy Minister of Transport and Aviation, Rex Bonapha. The agreement notably aims to enhance road safety measures across the country.
