Anti-Corruption Commission Launches Monitoring Committee

Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Anti-Corruption Commission inaugurated a Steering Committee on June 30, 2025, to oversee the implementation of the National Anti-Corruption Strategy (NACS) 2024–2028. The ceremony took place in a Conference Room at the Office of the Vice President, Tower Hill, and was attended by the Deputy Commissioner of the ACC and the Minister of State in the Vice President’s Office.

Minister of State Madam Manti Tarawalli welcomed the newly appointed committee members and expressed her commitment to the successful execution of the NACS. She outlined the committee’s terms of reference, which include directing the implementation of the strategy over the next five years, monitoring progress across public and private sectors, and ensuring adherence to the strategy’s objectives.

Deputy Commissioner Augustine Foday Ngobie highlighted the committee’s diverse composition, which includes representatives from government, development partners, the private sector, media, and civil society organizations. This inclusive approach, he noted, emphasizes the strategy’s commitment to a multi-sectoral fight against corruption.

Mariama Navo, Director of the NACS Secretariat, briefed the committee on previous strategies developed by the ACC, emphasizing a focus on corruption prevention in the current plan. Deputy Director Wilfred Bangura added that the ACC has established 118 integrity management committees in public offices to combat corruption and improve service delivery. The Steering Committee will monitor NACS implementation and assess compliance rates in public offices using a compliance barometer.

Edward B. Koroma, Acting Executive Director of Transparency International Sierra Leone and a committee member, praised the committee’s composition and vowed to work diligently for its success. Alhaji Manika Kamara, the president-elect of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists, emphasized the importance of proper record-keeping in public offices to enhance accountability and transparency.
