Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. Chief Minister David Moinina Sengeh was the guest of honor at the graduation ceremony for the Senior Command and Staff Course held at Horton Command and Staff College in Freetown.
At the event, he shared that his dedication to the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces comes directly from the leadership and example of President and Commander in Chief Julius Maada Bio.
The course runs for three months and is meant for senior officers, usually from the ranks of Major to Lieutenant Colonel. It covers leadership, military planning, disaster response, peacekeeping, and operations. Graduates also take part in hands-on exercises like Tactical Work Without Troops and Command Post Exercises to sharpen their thinking and decision making.
Chief Minister Sengeh spoke about his commitment to supporting the wellbeing of soldiers while helping to build a stronger military through training and reform. He said the drive to improve conditions for service members is something he shares with President Bio.
The Ministry of Defence now manages the college with support from Fourah Bay College and other partners. This year’s class included officers from Sierra Leone as well as participants from the Gambia, Guinea, and the Sierra Leone Correctional Service.
A total of 35 officers completed the course. Some were recognized for their performance, with awards given for Best Allied Student, Best Service Paper, and Best Overall Student.
Sengeh also encouraged the Ministry of Defence to keep supporting the college so it can grow into a top training center in the region. He thanked the lecturers, staff, and all those who helped guide the officers through the course and prepare them for bigger roles.
