SLFA Congress: Voting About to Commence

Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The voting process of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) Ordinary Congress is about to commence after a temporary pause over disagreement on leadership issues with both the President, Thomas Daddy Brima and his First Vice, Harold Nat-Johnson absent at the Gateway Hotel in Lungi, Port Loko District.

The disagreement started earlier, when some delegates disagreed with the Vice-President 2, Alie Badara Tarawallie in leading the Congress amid the absence of his two superiors.

Reports reaching our desk indicated that the temporary pause could have been machinated by Benjamin Gordon, CEO of Freetownians SLIFA. Gordon argued that the Congress should not hold considering that the President Brima is absent. He relied on Article 37 of the SLFA Statutes for his argument.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Sports, Augusta James Teima stressed on the need for decorum so that the Congress could continue. She urged disagreeing parties at the Lungi Gateway Hotel, where the session is ongoing, to remain calm.

Delegates will decide on the leadership of the Association, among other positions, after the incumbent, Brima was banned for participating over allegations of forgery. Brima, who denied any wrongdoing, was banned together with the only female candidate for the top seat, Aminata Bangura.

The latter, however, sought redress at the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) in Switzerland, and was given the nod by the court to continue her bid for the presidency.

Bangura is contesting against, supposed frontrunner, Babadi Kamara and Umaru Bah.
