Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The cries of the people of Yoni Mamaila Chiefdom, in the Northern District of Tonkolili, are echoing louder than ever.

“For years, Miro Forestry Company has been operating in our chiefdom, generating wealth from our land,” a resident who pleads for anonymity said.

Despite the company’s yearly payments of Community Development Funds and surface rent to the authorities, residents claim that the community remains mired in poverty and underdevelopment.

“We are tired of being left in the dark,” said one resident. “We want to know how the funds are used and why we are not seeing any benefits,” he added.

The lack of transparency and accountability in managing these funds has sparked outrage among the residents. They are questioning the effectiveness of the authorities and Miro Forestry Company in utilising the funds to address the plethora of societal problems plaguing the area.

The residents of Yoni Mamaila Chiefdom, particularly in Mile 91 township, are growing increasingly frustrated as they see no tangible benefits from these funds.

“We are struggling to access necessities like healthcare and education,” said another resident. “It’s unacceptable that the wealth generated from our land is not being used to improve our lives.”

The people of Yoni Mamaila Chiefdom are demanding change.

“We demand that the Anti-Corruption Commission step in to investigate the matter,” said a community leader. “We want to see tangible improvements in our lives, and we want to be involved in the decision-making process.”

The people of Yoni Mamaila Chiefdom deserve better. They deserve transparency, accountability, and development.

As one resident aptly put it, “The wealth generated from our land should be used to benefit our community, not just a select few.”

The future of Yoni Mamaila Chiefdom depends on the actions taken today. Will the authorities and Miro Forestry Company prioritise the needs of the community, or will they continue to prioritise their own interests?

The people of Yoni Mamaila Chiefdom said they are watching, and they will not be silenced.

“We will not rest until justice is served, and our community benefits from the exploitation of its resources,” said a determined resident.

The time for action is now. It’s time for the authorities and Miro Forestry Company to listen to the concerns of the people and work towards a more equitable solution.
