Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA) is set to revolutionize traffic enforcement with the introduction of a state-of-the-art smart payment system designed specifically for traffic offenders.
This initiative marks a major step toward digitizing the authority’s operations, enhancing transparency, and improving service delivery.
Historically, processing traffic fines in Sierra Leone has been a manual process, often characterized by delays, inefficiencies, and limited accountability. The new digital platform aims to address these challenges by enabling offenders to pay their fines online or through authorized agents, thereby reducing administrative bottlenecks and simplifying the payment process.
The system also features real-time transaction tracking and automated record-keeping, ensuring greater accuracy and transparency.
During a specialized training session for the Enforcement Corps on operating the new system, Deputy Executive Director Josie Abraham Scott-Manga emphasized the Authority’s long-term vision of embracing digital technology. “The management has worked tirelessly to digitize every sector within the Authority,” she stated. “The introduction of this handheld device and smart payment platform will streamline enforcement activities and promote transparency and accountability.”
Enforcement Director Augustine Kaitongi expressed enthusiasm about the new system, describing it as long overdue. “We’ve been yearning for such digital solutions for a long time,” he said. “This platform will not only generate receipts for fines but also provide real-time data on traffic violations, facilitate vehicle record tracking, increase revenue, and improve overall transparency in enforcement.”
He highlighted the importance of well-trained personnel to operate the system efficiently, noting that comprehensive training is a critical component of the rollout. “Effective management of this technology depends on skilled operators,” Kaitongi emphasized.
Representing the technology partner, the CEO of Smart System Company explained the key features and benefits of the new platform. “This system will eliminate the need for physical ticket printing,” he stated. “It allows the Authority to monitor enforcement activities more accurately and provides daily data on traffic offences, which is vital for planning and enforcement strategies.”
The introduction of this smart payment system signifies Sierra Leone’s commitment to leveraging technology to improve traffic management, boost revenue, and uphold transparency and accountability within the enforcement process.
