Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The National Chairman of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), Sir Jimmy Batilo Songa, has urged party members to remain united and disciplined as the party prepares for future challenges.
Speaking at the SLPP UK & Ireland Regional General Meeting in London, Sir Songa emphasized that there is no room for personal projects or misplaced ambitions within the party.
Conveying greetings from President Julius Maada Bio, he described the UK & Ireland Region as “very close to my heart,” recognizing its pivotal role in the party’s history and recent victories. He credited the region as the birthplace of the “JMB Agenda,” which helped mobilize support, raise resources, and champion the “New Direction” movement that led to the SLPP’s electoral win in 2018.
Sir Songa led a moment of silence in honor of the party’s founding fathers and past supporters, acknowledging their sacrifices in building the SLPP. He stressed that the party’s focus must remain on one unified mission: “We have only ONE AGENDA—the SLPP Agenda. No factions. No distractions.”
Reaffirming President Bio’s position as the sole leader of the SLPP, Sir Songa declared his own loyalty and commitment to guiding the party with discipline and fairness. With national elections three years away, he urged members to prioritize governance and the implementation of President Bio’s “Big Five Game Changers”—Feed Salone, Human Capital Development, Youth Employment, Technology and Infrastructure, and Public Service Reform.
He also announced plans to strengthen the party’s campaign infrastructure through sub-committees in the UK & Ireland Region, cautioning against complacency and emphasizing the importance of maintaining unity to prevent the opposition from regaining power.
Closing his address, Sir Songa pledged humility and service, calling on members at home and abroad to defend the party’s record and support its vision of transformation. His message was met with chants of “SLPP! One Country! One People!” as the meeting ended with renewed calls for solidarity and loyalty.
