Fourah Bay College Denies Sale of Staff Quarters

Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. Management at Fourah Bay College (FBC), University of Sierra Leone, has categorically denied social media reports claiming the sale of its staff quarters.

In a press statement released on October 1, 2025, the college administration called the reports “unfounded” and used the clarification to highlight the urgent need for action regarding illegal land seizures threatening the college’s future.

The denial follows a public condemnation from Opposition Whip Hon. Abdul Karim Kamara (AKK), who described the alleged sale of the Mount Aureole campus quarters—primarily occupied by senior staff—as a “senseless decision” and urged President Julius Maada Bio to intervene.

FBC Management shifted focus to the issue of encroachment, stating that despite a landmark High Court ruling on July 11, 2024, which declared FBC the legal owner of the land at the Tree Planting Axis and granted it immediate possession, the college has been unable to reclaim the land.

The college cited security concerns as the reason for the delay, calling the situation “unacceptable.”

The administration warned that the failure to enforce the court order has severe consequences for the historic institution, which will celebrate its bicentenary in 2027.

The consequences include: Stifling the future development and expansion of FBC; Emboldening encroachers who have infiltrated the campus, threatening the security of students and staff; Damaging the local ecosystem, including the historic Botanical Garden, and threatening the water catchment area for greater Freetown.

The FBC Administration concluded by calling on all stakeholders to support the preservation of the college’s future by ensuring the immediate implementation of the court order to secure its undisputed land.
