Ilraj Holds Orientation for 2025 High School Debate

Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Institute for Legal Research and Advocacy for Justice (ILRAJ) has successfully conducted an orientation and debate training session for schools participating in the upcoming 2025 ILRAJ High School Debate Championship. The event took place at the Africell American Corner in Freetown.

This year’s championship will be held under the theme “Civic Education, Justice, and the Rule of Law,” aimed at promoting critical thinking, civic awareness, and eloquent public discourse among secondary school pupils.

The orientation brought together representatives from twenty (20) secondary schools for an engaging and interactive training session designed to equip them with fundamental debating techniques. The session focused on the Fundamental Principles of Debate, with emphasis on the widely acclaimed SALSA method — Speak, Argue, Listen, Summarise, and Assess, and the four key steps to becoming a successful debater: Reading, Listening, Writing, and Speaking.

Participating schools were divided into four groups, setting the foundation for an exciting and competitive championship ahead.

The ILRAJ High School Debate Championship is scheduled to take place at the Multi-Purpose Hall, Fourah Bay College, on October 10th and 11th, 2025.

ILRAJ extended its sincere appreciation to Mr. Alex A. Bah, the lead facilitator, for his outstanding presentation and dedication to nurturing young debaters. Special thanks were also conveyed to all participating schools, teachers, and students for their enthusiasm and active participation in the orientation.
