Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. Sir Jimmy Batilo Songa, the newly appointed National Chairman of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), has paid tribute to the party’s grassroots, emphasizing their pivotal role in the SLPP’s continued governance.
“I am the National Chairman of this great party today because of the SLPP grassroots. Without them, I am nobody and without them, you are nobody,” Sir Songa declared during his acceptance speech.
The remarks were made at a symbolic handover ceremony, where the party’s administration transitioned from Dr. Prince Alex Harding, National Chairman Emeritus, to Sir Songa.
He highlighted that the SLPP’s current position in government is built on the sacrifices of countless party supporters and warned that sustaining power beyond 2028 requires prioritizing the welfare of these loyal grassroots members.
In a move underscoring this commitment, Sir Songa and National Secretary-General Hon. Umar Paran Tarawally have voluntarily stepped down from their lucrative government roles, aiming to keep the SLPP united and focused on the 2028 elections.
