Mercy Ship Residents Deny Plans to Instigate Unrest

Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. Residents of the Mercy Ship community in Waterloo have strongly denounced recent false reports and reaffirmed their commitment to peace, unity, and lawful conduct.

The online allegations, circulated by a network known as “The Electric Network,” claimed that the community was planning to instigate unrest.

At a recent community engagement meeting, the Local Unit Commander (LUC) of Waterloo praised Mercy Ship for being one of the most disciplined and cooperative neighborhoods under his jurisdiction. He described the partnership between residents and the police as a model for other communities.

Community members emphasized that the rumors were misleading and designed to tarnish the reputation of a peaceful and organized settlement. Sergeant Abdul Mansaray, a resident and community leader, stated:

“We live in harmony here. There has been no meeting or plan to cause any disturbance. Those behind such claims are only seeking attention.”

Another resident, Mr. Adikali Koroma, condemned the online publication, warning that spreading unverified information could constitute cyber misconduct under national law. He called on authorities to investigate those responsible for creating unnecessary tension.

Despite the circulation of false reports, residents say the situation in Mercy Ship remains calm. They have pledged to continue working with the police and other stakeholders to maintain security and community cohesion.

“We want the public to know that Mercy Ship is a peaceful and law-abiding community. Our doors remain open for cooperation with anyone seeking the truth,” said one resident.

The episode has further strengthened the community’s resolve to stand together against misinformation, upholding the values of unity, honesty, and civic responsibility, while protecting the neighborhood’s reputation from unfounded claims.
