Helen Kuyembeh, former Member of Parliament representing Bo District. The solemn event took place on Thursday, 30th October 2025, at the Parliament Building in Freetown.

Giving the purpose of the ceremony, the Director of the Parliamentary and Public Relations Department, Sheku Lamin Turay, described the late Hon. Kuyembeh as an eminent public servant, legislator, and activist who served her constituency and country with distinction. He noted that she was also known as a strong debater and a motherly figure to many.

In his tribute, the Majority and Leader of Government Business, Hon. “She served a purposeful and meaningful life,” Hon. Nyuma said, urging leaders and politicians to remain united in serving the interests of Sierra Leone.

The President of the Parliamentary Female Caucus, Hon. Bernadette Wuyatta Songa, also paid tribute, recalling the deceased’s passion for gender affairs and her tireless advocacy for the protection of women and girls across the country.

“Hon. Kuyembeh often advised me to be a good leader as President of the Female Caucus,” she shared, describing her as a mentor and an inspiration to many women in politics.

The Acting Leader of the Opposition, Hon. Daniel Brima Koroma, reflected on his time working with the late MP between 2012 and 2017. He described her as receptive, loyal, and deeply committed to parliamentary leadership.

“Death has no respect for age or wealth,” he said, encouraging colleagues and mourners to live meaningful lives and remain steadfast in faith. He also consoled the bereaved family, urging them to stay calm and trust in God’s everlasting grace.

The ceremony concluded with prayers led by Rev. Reginald Collier, the City Chaplain, who offered spiritual comfort and blessings for the soul of the late Hon. Helen Kuyembeh.
