PPRC Cautions SLPP and APC Over Hate Speech and Incitement

Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC) has today convened a crucial meeting with the leadership of Sierra Leone’s two major political parties the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) and the main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) at its headquarters in Freetown.

The meeting, chaired by PPRC Chairman Emmanuel Koivaya Amara Esq, seeks to address growing concerns over the use of inciting language and hate speech by members and supporters of both parties. Recent political exchanges on social media and at public gatherings have raised fears of deepening political divisions and potential unrest.

According to the PPRC, the purpose of the engagement is to remind the two leading political entities of their responsibility to promote peace, tolerance, and national cohesion, especially at a time when Sierra Leone continues to consolidate its democratic gains.

“Our country has come a long way, and we cannot afford to let reckless political utterances undermine the peace and stability we’ve built,” Chairman Bangurah said. “The Commission will not hesitate to take action against any political actor or party found guilty of incitement or hate speech.”

Representatives from both the SLPP and the APC reportedly reaffirmed their commitment to fostering peaceful political dialogue and urged their supporters to refrain from inflammatory rhetoric.

The PPRC’s latest intervention comes amid heightened political tensions, with accusations and counteraccusations dominating public discourse. The Commission has consistently called for responsible communication among political players and emphasized the need for issue-based politics ahead of future elections.

As the nation watches closely, the PPRC’s message serves as a strong reminder that Sierra Leone’s democratic stability depends not only on strong institutions but also on the conduct and language of its political leaders and followers.
