Youths Minister Sannoh Engages Alimamy Kamara in Makeni

Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Minister of Youth Affairs, Ibrahim Sannoh, has met with former Minister of Youth Affairs, Alimamy A. Kamara, in what has been described as a symbolic gesture aimed at strengthening collaboration and continuity in Sierra Leone’s youth development efforts.

The meeting took place in Makeni during Minister Sannoh’s field visit to monitor the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) project involving bike riders in the northern city.

According to the Ministry, the courtesy call on the former minister was part of broader efforts to build partnerships across generations and political lines in advancing the national youth agenda.

During the engagement, Minister Sannoh commended Mr. Kamara for his previous contributions to the Ministry, describing his tenure as one that laid a “visionary and valuable foundation” for ongoing youth programs. He emphasized the importance of institutional continuity, collaboration, and peacebuilding in ensuring sustainable progress in the sector.

Minister Sannoh also highlighted the need for unity among current and past leaders in addressing key issues affecting young people, including political polarization and the rising challenge of substance abuse in communities. He called for a collective and non-partisan approach to youth empowerment, stating that “the development of Sierra Leone’s young people must remain above political differences.”

In response, Mr. Kamara welcomed the minister’s outreach and commended his efforts to foster inclusivity and dialogue within the youth sector. He particularly praised Minister Sannoh’s recent engagement with young people from different political backgrounds, noting that such gestures promote national cohesion and mutual respect.

Mr. Kamara reaffirmed his willingness to collaborate with the Ministry in advancing youth development programs, stressing that empowering young people should be viewed as a national priority that transcends political affiliations.

Both leaders agreed on the need for stronger intergenerational cooperation, particularly in tackling drug abuse, unemployment, and youth marginalization. The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to continue fostering peace, productivity, and patriotism among Sierra Leone’s youth.
