Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE) has officially released the academic calendar for the 2025/2026 school year for all junior and senior secondary schools across Sierra Leone.
According to the schedule, the first term runs from 8th September to 19th December 2025, spanning 15 weeks. During this term, schools will host the annual Inter-Secondary Soccer and Volleyball Competition in October and November.
Students will observe the Christmas break from 22nd December 2025 to 2nd January 2026.
The second term is set for 5th January to 20th April 2026, lasting 13 weeks. Activities during this period include the Inter-Secondary Track and Field Athletics Meet scheduled for April. Pupils will also enjoy the Easter break from 3rd to 17th April 2026.
The third term will run from 20th April to 17th July 2026, also spanning 13 weeks. Schools will close for the end-of-year vacation from 20th July to 4th September 2026.
The 2025/2026 academic year will cover a total of 41 weeks of instruction. Dates for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and the West African Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) will be announced later by MBSSE and WAEC.
The 2026/2027 school year is scheduled to commence on 7th September 2026.
