Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Human Rights Commission of Sierra Leone (HRCSL) on 19 November 2025 received a delegation from ECOWAS, led by Sabetta Chansa, Technical Advisor for Security Sector Reform Governance (SSRG).
The visit aimed to explore potential collaboration between ECOWAS and HRCSL in promoting access to justice across member states.
The delegation is rolling out an ECOWAS project focused on enhancing justice access and security governance.
The team was welcomed by Mrs. Patricia Narsu Ndanema, Chairperson of HRCSL, who highlighted the Commission’s ongoing interventions to promote peace and justice across Sierra Leone.
Sabetta Chansa noted that the project has five components, including elections and security, and stressed the importance of involving HRCSL.
“We’ve engaged Parliament and the Office of National Security, which are critical to our project, but we cannot isolate the Commission, as your institution has the powers and knowledge to handle issues about access to justice,” she said.
The ECOWAS delegation also invited HRCSL to participate in an upcoming symposium in Abuja themed Rule of Law, Human Security, and Accountability. The date of the event will be communicated in due course.
During the visit, the delegates were given a comprehensive overview of the Commission’s structure and operations by Executive Secretary Joseph Kamara and his deputy, Frederick Kamara.
