Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Inspector General of Police of Liberia, Gregory O. W. Coleman, and Sierra Leone’s Inspector General, William Fayia Sellu, held a high-level meeting with President Julius Maada Bio on Thursday, 20 November 2025, at State House in Freetown.

During the meeting, the two police chiefs formally proposed the establishment of a Mano River Union (MRU) Chiefs of Police Committee, a new platform aimed at strengthening regional security cooperation. Discussions focused on deepening collaboration in law enforcement, intelligence exchange, and joint security operations.

President Bio commended both IGPs for their initiative and reaffirmed his government’s commitment to supporting regional strategies that promote peace and stability across the sub-region.

He fully endorsed the proposal, noting that enhanced coordination among MRU countries is essential for tackling cross-border crime and improving information sharing.

The two police chiefs also met with Vice President Dr. Juleh Jalloh, who said: “In my capacity as Chair of the Sierra Leone Police Council, I held a meeting with the Inspector General of Police of Liberia, Hon. Gregory O.W. Coleman, as part of his four-day visit to Sierra Leone. We discussed the need to strengthen cross-border security, improve policing, and protect citizens on both sides of the Mano River while leveraging our shared bonds, history, culture, and family.”

Dr. Jalloh added: “I commended Hon. Coleman for his commitment to regional security coordination and strengthening the partnership between our two countries to ensure safer communities.”

The visits form part of a series of engagements between Liberia and Sierra Leone police leadership as they work toward a more unified approach to security challenges within the MRU bloc.
