Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Ministry of Health (MoH) on Thursday, 20 November 2025, began distributing free food items including provisions and snacks to healthcare workers on night shifts at the Princess Christian Maternity Hospital (PCMH) and the Ola During Children’s Hospital (ODCH) in Freetown.
According to the Ministry, the initiative, which also covers staff at King Herman Road Hospital, Rokupa, and JMB Hospitals, is part of a broader strategy to support healthcare workers during night duties. The program aims to help staff focus on their work and provide high-quality services to patients.
“It is also a way of acknowledging the dedication and hard work of healthcare workers who are determined to give their best but are often constrained by logistics, including access to food,” said Dr. Mustapha Kabba, Deputy Chief Medical Officer-Clinical.
Dr. Kabba added that the initiative had existed previously but was halted due to funding challenges. With renewed support, the Ministry has raised funds to revive the program and ensure healthcare workers are better supported.
At the handover, hospital staff expressed gratitude for the gesture, noting that it boosts morale, confidence, and motivation, especially during these challenging financial times.
