Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Parliament of Sierra Leone has approved seven Presidential nominees following deliberations held on 20th November 2025.
The approval came after the presentation of the Third Report of the Committee on Appointments and Public Service, chaired by the Majority Leader and Leader of Government Business, Hon. Sahr Mathew Nyuma.
Presenting the nominees to the House, Hon. Nyuma explained that each nominee had been thoroughly interviewed under oath. The vetting process examined their professional experience, track records, tax compliance, asset declaration, and their vision for effectively carrying out their duties. He informed MPs that the report presented reflected the unanimous decision of the committee.
Seconding the motion, the Deputy Leader 2 of the Opposition, Hon. Aaron Aruna Koroma, referenced Section 61 of the 1991 Constitution, which empowers the President to appoint officials based on competence and performance.
He emphasized that the approved nominees must work diligently in the interest of the citizens. He particularly praised the nominee for NaCSA, expressing confidence in her ability to contribute meaningfully to national development. Hon. Koroma also called on NaCSA to support efforts aimed at rehabilitating drug victims and urged the government to prioritize road construction in Mile 91.
Contributing to the debate, the Chief Whip of Parliament, Hon. Dixon Rogers of Pujehun District, commended the President’s selection of nominees, especially highlighting the hard work and commitment of Dr. Susan Amie Robert.
He encouraged all appointees, particularly those from Pujehun District, to demonstrate excellence and maintain constructive relations with Parliament.
Wrapping up the debate on behalf of the opposition, the Deputy Leader of the Opposition, Hon. Daniel Brima Koroma, noted that Parliament consistently evaluates the qualifications and competencies of nominees before approval.
He urged the President to continue empowering women through appointments and cautioned the nominees to focus on performance, as failure to deliver could lead to dismissal. He further called on the SLRSA nominee to prioritize repairs to the deteriorating Model Junction–Parliament road, citing safety concerns for MPs and other road users.
