Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. Christ the King College (CKC) in Bo has concluded its 72nd Anniversary celebrations with a transformative announcement led by one of its most distinguished alumni, Hon. Dr. Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella.
The week-long commemoration, which ended on Sunday, 23rd November 2025, drew hundreds of proud COBIANS to their historic campus for a colourful match pass and a series of reflection-filled events.
The climax of the celebration came with the unveiling of a 120kW Solar Photovoltaic (PV) system and a 100kVA generator a flagship energy project championed and facilitated by Dr. Yumkella. The initiative is widely regarded as a turning point in CKC’s energy future, promising to significantly enhance power reliability, security, and academic activities on campus.
Dr. Yumkella, an internationally renowned advocate for sustainable energy and development, said the project reflects his commitment to giving back to the institution that shaped his academic foundation and leadership journey. He noted that improving energy access is not only vital for CKC’s growth but also central to national development.
Alumni, staff, students, and Bo residents received the announcement with overwhelming appreciation. Many described Dr. Yumkella’s intervention as a visionary gesture that aligns with his lifelong mission of expanding clean and reliable energy access.
Installation of the solar system and generator is expected to be completed within three months. Once operational, the project is expected to greatly improve lighting, enhance campus security, support digital learning, and provide a stable environment for academic work.
As the anniversary celebrations conclude, one message stands clear: CKC is entering a new era one powered by innovation, sustainability, and the enduring loyalty of its alumni, led by Dr. Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella.
