The visit, upon the invitation of Sierra Leone’s IGP, Mr. William Fayia Sellu, culminated in the signing of a joint security communiqué aimed at enhancing bilateral police cooperation and promoting regional peace and stability.

During the visit, IGP Coleman engaged in a series of high-level meetings, including courtesy calls on His Excellency the President of Sierra Leone, the Vice President and Chairman of the Police Council, the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, and the Minister of Internal Affairs. He also held bilateral discussions with the Executive Management Board of the Sierra Leone Police.

The highlight of the visit was the proposal and endorsement of the Mano River Union Police Chiefs Committee, a regional initiative designed to foster cooperation among the police institutions of Sierra Leone, Liberia, Guinea, and Côte d’Ivoire. Both Inspectors General emphasized the importance of cross-border crime prevention, intelligence sharing, joint training, community policing, cybersecurity, human trafficking, and tackling transnational organized crime.

The joint communiqué outlines a series of commitments, including the shared dedication to maintaining peace and security in the Mano River basin, strengthening institutional capacities through exchange training programs, and intensifying efforts to combat human trafficking, drug trafficking, and the proliferation of small arms. It further stresses the importance of enhanced coordination to secure common borders and ensure the safety of citizens in both countries.

Both IGPs expressed satisfaction with the outcomes of the visit and pledged to formalize future collaboration through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

The SLP thanked IGP Coleman and his delegation for the visit, reaffirming its commitment to continued cooperation in promoting professional policing and regional stability.
