Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Ministry of Health (MoH) has continued its nationwide initiative to provide free food and essential provisions to healthcare workers on night duty, with the latest distribution taking place at Kenema Government Hospital.
The program, implemented across multiple health facilities, aims to improve staff welfare and support uninterrupted delivery of healthcare services during night shifts. Officials say the initiative boosts morale among medical personnel who often work long, demanding hours.
Deputy Chief Medical Officer–Clinical, Dr. Mustapha Kabba, said the gesture serves both practical and symbolic purposes. “It is also a way of acknowledging the dedication and hard work of healthcare workers who are determined to give their best but constrained by logistics, including food,” he explained.
Healthcare workers at Kenema Government Hospital expressed appreciation for the supplies, describing them as timely support that helps ease the challenges of overnight duty.
They noted that access to food and basic provisions during night shifts contributes to better focus, improved stamina, and a more supportive working environment.
The Ministry reiterated its commitment to strengthening staff welfare as part of broader reforms to enhance the well-being and productivity of frontline health workers across Sierra Leone.
