Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE), Conrad Sackey, visited Kambia District on Monday, December 1, to engage with local educators and launch a district-wide teachers’ football tournament.

The visit was undertaken at the invitation of the Honourable Abdul Karim Kamara (AKK), the Opposition Chief Whip in Parliament and Member of Parliament for Constituency 059.

While the event began with the kickoff of the football competition—won by the team in green jerseys—the primary focus of the visit was a high-level dialogue regarding the state of education in the district. Following the match, Minister Sackey held a working session with teachers and school leaders to address pressing challenges in the sector.

Discussions covered a wide range of critical issues, including teacher welfare, professional development, school infrastructure, technology integration, and climate resilience.

Minister Sackey described the visit as a testament to the principle that national development must transcend political divisions.

“The classroom knows no political colour,” Minister Sackey stated. “Wherever there are students eager to learn and teachers committed to nurturing them, this Ministry has an obligation to listen, support, and act.”

The Minister thanked Hon. Kamara for facilitating the non-partisan forum, noting that the concerns raised by the Kambia teachers have been recorded and will be integrated into the Ministry’s operational plans. He reaffirmed that the government’s national education sector plan is focused on improving learning outcomes for every child in Sierra Leone, regardless of their geographic location.

Sackey characterized the meeting as the first step in a structured process of collaboration to ensure that the dedication of teachers in the region is matched with effective systems and resources.
