Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Mano River Union (MRU) U-20 Women’s Tournament, Match-Day 2 at the Southern Arena in Bo City, Liberia, staged a dramatic comeback to secure a 2-2 draw against host nation Sierra Leone on Wednesday, December 3, 2025.
Sierra Leone looked set for a victory after establishing a comfortable two-goal lead, but the Liberian side fought back fiercely in the dying minutes to share the points.
The host nation’s “Sierra Queens” struck first just before the halftime whistle. Fatmate E. Conteh broke the deadlock in the 45th minute, giving Sierra Leone a 1-0 lead going into the break.
Furthermore, Sierra Leone in the second half, Sarah Turay doubled their advantage with a goal in the 71st minute, making the score 2-0.
However, Liberia’s fightback began quickly when Olive Nyumah scored just three minutes after Sierra Leone’s second goal, pulling one back in the 74th minute.
In the final minutes, when Makasian Saryon netted a crucial equalizer in the 89th minute, completing the late comeback point for Liberia.
The tournament resumes on Friday with Matchday 3, where more excitement is anticipated as both teams vie for regional supremacy. The draw ensures the competition remains wide open heading into the final fixtures.
