Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Chinese Embassy in Sierra Leone has donated food items to the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) as part of efforts to boost officer morale ahead of the festive season.

The donation, which includes 250 bags of 25kg rice, 20 bags of 50kg sugar, and 40 gallons of cooking oil, was presented to the police on Friday, 19th December, 2025.

Speaking during the presentation, Zhang Dianbin, the Chargé d’Affaires at the Chinese Embassy, emphasized that the donation reflects the strong and longstanding relationship between China and Sierra Leone. He noted that the food items were intended to motivate police personnel as they work to maintain public safety during the busy end-of-year period.

“This gesture is a reflection of China’s continued commitment to supporting the Sierra Leone Police, particularly during times that require enhanced security and public engagement,” Zhang said. “We believe this donation will help uplift the morale of the officers, enabling them to carry out their duties effectively.”

In response, Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) John Martin Senessie, who received the donation on behalf of the Inspector General of Police, expressed deep appreciation for the timely support. He quoted the adage, “An empty bag cannot stand,” underscoring the importance of welfare support in ensuring police officers remain motivated and productive.

“The donation comes at a crucial time, as our officers will be working long hours throughout the festive season to ensure the safety and security of Sierra Leoneans,” AIG Senessie said. “We are grateful for the continued support of the Chinese government and people. This gesture will go a long way in enhancing the morale of our officers.”

AIG Senessie assured the Chinese Embassy that the donated items would be put to good use and would contribute to the SLP’s commitment to professionalism and effective service delivery.

The donation is seen as a major step in strengthening the relationship between China and Sierra Leone, further solidifying China’s support for national institutions in their efforts to maintain peace, stability, and security in the country.
