Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. A joint monitoring mission supported by the European Union has reaffirmed progress and strengthened community engagement under the Youth Leadership to Enhance Accountability and Development (YOUTHLEAD) project, following a field visit to Kpandebu Dama on 16 February 2026.

The monitoring team comprised representatives of the YOUTHLEAD project, including project managers and monitoring and evaluation officers from SEND-SL and WESOFOD-SL, as well as key district stakeholders such as the District Planning Officer and the District Youth Chairman of Kenema District.

During the visit, the delegation engaged members of the Kpandebu Dama Jorbo Development Association youth group to assess implementation progress. Through open discussions, participants reviewed achievements recorded so far, identified operational challenges, and highlighted priority areas requiring further support. The engagement sought to enhance project effectiveness and ensure the sustainability of ongoing interventions.

Youth representatives welcomed the interaction, describing it as an opportunity to voice practical concerns affecting their activities. District officials and project partners reaffirmed their commitment to collaborative problem-solving aimed at strengthening youth participation, accountability, and local development outcomes.

The YOUTHLEAD project is currently being implemented in four districts—Pujehun, Kambia, Port Loko, and Kenema—through a partnership involving SEND-SL, Trócaire, and WESOFOD-SL. The initiative focuses on empowering young people to assume leadership roles in promoting transparency, inclusive governance, and community development.

Officials described the monitoring exercise as a critical step in ensuring that project objectives remain aligned with the needs of local youth groups, reinforcing a shared commitment to youth-driven sustainable development.
