Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. Voting is currently ongoing in the Bombali Sebora Chiefdom Paramount Chieftaincy election at the Practising Field in Makeni City, as the chiefdom moves to fill the vacant throne left by the late Paramount Chief Bai Sebora Kasanga II, who died in 2023.
Nine candidates are vying for the revered position, with six polling stations set up to facilitate the voting process. The electorate, made up of Tribal Authorities and Chiefdom Councillors, will cast their votes to decide who becomes the next Paramount Chief of Bombali Sebora Chiefdom in Bombali District.
Security has been heightened around the voting venue, with a visible police presence deployed to maintain order and ensure a peaceful process throughout the day.
According to electoral guidelines, a candidate must secure at least 55% of the total votes to be declared the winner. If no candidate meets the threshold, the election will proceed to a run-off.
Both the provincial secretary and officials from the Electoral Commission have urged all parties to respect the law and uphold the integrity of the process. They called on candidates, supporters, and Tribal Authorities to allow the democratic process to run its course without interference.
Voting is expected to conclude later today, after which counting and declaration will follow. The outcome will determine the new custodian of tradition and local governance for one of Bombali District’s most significant chiefdoms.
