SLFA Launches Probe Into Alleged Match Fixing

Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Sierra Leone Football Association Referees Committee has launched a formal investigation into alleged match-fixing attempts, suspending referee Foday Momoh as part of ongoing inquiries.

The investigation, according to the SLFA, was triggered by a formal petition submitted by Star Sport Academy FC.

In a public statement, the Committee disclosed that it has authenticated evidence, including voice recordings and telephone records, which support allegations that certain club officials attempted to illegally influence match officials. The evidence also suggests acts of retaliation against referees, raising concerns about their safety and independence.

The Committee described the suspension of Momoh as a precautionary measure aimed at protecting the integrity of the investigation, adding that it remains in effect pending his full cooperation.

The SLFA further stated that the matter will be jointly handled with the Leone Rock Premier League Board to ensure a thorough probe. It noted that individuals found culpable will face sanctions in line with regulations of FIFA and Confederation of African Football.

The Association reaffirmed its commitment to upholding integrity in football and called on all stakeholders, including clubs, officials, players, and supporters, to cooperate with the investigation.
