Freetonians SLIFA Secures Vital 2-0 Win Over Abacha City

Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. Freetonians SLIFA FC strengthened their fight against relegation with a hard-fought 2-0 win over Abacha City on Saturday at the SLFA Academy, opening up a vital four-point cushion above their direct rivals.

Abacha City began the match brightly, dominating possession and creating several clear chances in the first half. However, their early momentum was repeatedly denied by an outstanding performance from SLIFA goalkeeper Mohamed T. Koroma, who produced a series of impressive saves to keep the scoreline level.

Against the run of play, SLIFA FC took the lead in first-half stoppage time. A costly error from the Abacha City goalkeeper allowed Bainous Bangura to capitalise, calmly finishing into an empty net in the 45th minute.

After the break, Abacha City continued to press for an equaliser but struggled with their final delivery. SLIFA’s defence remained resilient, with Koroma commanding his area and organising effectively under pressure.

The decisive moment came in the 78th minute when Alimamy Y. S. Kamara produced a moment of brilliance, curling a stunning long-range effort into the top corner to double SLIFA’s advantage.

Abacha City pushed forward in the closing stages, but Koroma sealed a Man of the Match performance with two more crucial saves to maintain his clean sheet.

The result sees SLIFA FC move four points clear of Abacha City in the relegation standings, giving them a significant boost as the season nears its conclusion.

SLIFA FC will face a challenging away fixture against Diamond Stars next Wednesday, while Abacha City will look to recover when they host Diamond Stars on May 10, 2026.
