Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. President Julius Maada Bio of Sierra Leone has arrived in the Republic of Cyprus for an official visit at the invitation of President Nikos Christodoulides. The visit marks a continued effort to strengthen bilateral relations and deepen cooperation between the two nations.
The Sierra Leonean delegation was welcomed at Larnaca International Airport by senior Cypriot officials and Sierra Leone’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, who is also accredited to Cyprus. President Bio was later escorted to Nicosia, the capital city, where the official engagements are scheduled to begin.
Sierra Leone and Cyprus have maintained a cordial diplomatic relationship for over two decades, collaborating through international platforms such as the United Nations and the Commonwealth on issues related to peace, development, and multilateral cooperation.
President Bio’s visit comes as Cyprus prepares to assume the six-month rotating Presidency of the Council of the European Union on January 1, 2026 a development that adds significance to the discussions expected between the two leaders. The talks are anticipated to focus on enhancing cooperation in areas such as trade, education, technology, and governance, while reinforcing ties between the European Union and ECOWAS regions.
During his stay, President Bio is scheduled to participate in an official welcoming ceremony at the Presidential Palace in Nicosia, followed by bilateral meetings with President Christodoulides. He will also visit the House of Representatives, the Municipality of Nicosia, and cultural sites including the Byzantine Museum and the Cyprus Museum.
The visit reflects Sierra Leone’s ongoing diplomatic outreach to broaden its international partnerships and foster collaboration on shared priorities such as democratic governance, sustainable development, and regional peace.
