SLFA Demotes and Suspends Match Officials After Assessments

Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) Referees Committee has announced a series of disciplinary measures and performance assessments following official match reviews conducted between 14th and 22nd November 2025.

The actions target refereeing standards in the ongoing Premier League season and underscore the Association’s commitment to improving officiating quality across all competitions.

In the match between Abacha City FC and Old Edwardians FC on 14th November, Referee Abdul M. Fofana was found to have performed below Premier League standards, with the Committee citing poor fitness and inadequate decision-making. As a result, he has been demoted with immediate effect and will undergo mandatory refresher training.

For the fixture between SLIFA FC and Wilberforce Strikers on 15th November, the Committee reviewed a key incident in the 11th minute. After examining video footage, it concluded that the referee’s decision was consistent with Law 12 of the game. The ruling has been upheld, and no disciplinary action will be taken.

However, disciplinary sanctions were issued following the 22nd November match between Kallon FC and Bullum Stars. The Committee determined that a clear handball offence in the penalty area during the 16th minute was not penalized. Referee Aiah J. Ansumana and Assistant Referee 2 Abdul Jahjah Sankoh were found to have failed in their application of Law 12. Both officials have been suspended for one month with immediate effect and are required to attend refresher training.

The SLFA emphasized that these actions form part of ongoing efforts to strengthen refereeing integrity and ensure fairness across domestic competitions.

The Association reaffirmed its commitment to upholding high officiating standards and promoting accountability among match officials.
