Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Western Area Rural District Council (WARDC) has taken a major step toward improving infrastructure and social services in Grafton, following the announcement of two significant development projects funded by international partners.
During a visit to Grafton on Saturday, November 29, 2025, Chairman Kasho J. Holland Cole informed residents that the Council has secured funding from the European Union for the construction of a modern market and a set of commercial stores. The new market will feature running water and a cold room, aimed at enhancing food safety and creating a more conducive trading environment for both traders and buyers.
Chairman Cole also disclosed that WARDC has obtained funding from the World Bank to rehabilitate and upgrade the Maria School for the physically challenged in Grafton. The initiative is expected to improve learning conditions and expand support for children with disabilities in the community.
Residents, alongside Councilors and Village Heads, warmly welcomed Chairman Cole and his delegation. The engagement provided community members with firsthand information about the upcoming projects, which are anticipated to bring long-term social and economic benefits to the area.
Cole assured the community of WARDC’s continued commitment to inclusive development and effective service delivery across the district.
