Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. <\/strong><\/span>Controversial Twitter own, Elon Musk has fired nearly all Twitter employees in Ghana<\/p>\n

The South African-born business mogul pulled the rug under Twitter employees in Accra, the headquarters of Twitter Africa, after the American billionaire took over the company.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe company is re-organising its operations as a result of a need to reduce costs,\u201d read the email to staff from Fidelma Callaghan, Director of People Services quoted by BBC Africa.<\/p>\n

Musk who bought the micro-blogging site two weeks ago for SSP26 trillion ($44 billion), had promised to make big changes at the company, including laying off workers across almost all its global offices.<\/p>\n

The termination letters were sent to each of the employees\u2019 personal addresses. Their office email had been blocked before the devastating news was relayed by the new boss, contrary to labour laws that require an employer to give a three-month termination notice.<\/p>\n

The termination of employment notice warned staff not to \u201ccontact or deal with any customers, clients, authorities, banks, suppliers or other employees of the company and are required to inform the company if contacted\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s very insulting. The entire thing. From the mail to the lack of next steps to the tone of the letter. Just everything. Ridiculously insulting,\u201d an affected staff told the BBC.<\/p>\n

The letter told staff that their last day at work will be 4 December, but warned them against seeking any other employment before the date.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou must ensure that the company knows where you will be and how you can be contacted during each working day to ensure your availability during the transition of responsibilities,\u201d the notice reads.<\/p>\n

Twitter opened its first Africa office in 2021.<\/p>\n

Meta, the parent company that owns Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram has also announced a mass layoff that could affect over 11, 000 people.<\/p>\n

Mark Zuckerberg announced that the changes will affect upto 13% of its workforce.<\/p>\n
