Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. <\/strong><\/span>Next year\u2019s Zone Two Boxing Championships will be staged in Dakar, Senegal, the secretary-general of the zone, Anta Gueye (pictured) announced today.<\/p>\n

<\/a>Gueye, who is also a member of Africa Boxing Confederation (AFBC) Board of Directors, said she expects a full house in the Dakar tournament to be held in March. It will coincide with a 1-Star certification course for coaches, referees and judges.\u201cWe have already informed the relevant people at IBA to provide us with the instructors and the Senegalese federation will finance the course,\u201d said Gueye who is the secretary-general of Senegal Boxing Federation.<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p>\n

Zone Two 15-member countries are Benin, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Cote d\u2019 Ivoire, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea Bissau, Guinea Conakry, Liberia, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone and Togo.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s Zone Two tournament was held in Freetown, Sierra Leone. Winners Senegal collected 11 gold, four silver and two bronze followed by Cape Verde on four gold, two silver and one gold with third-placed Sierra Leone bagging two gold, six silver and two bronze medals. Niger was fourth with one gold and one silver followed by Guinea Conakry with two silver, seven bronze while Gambia and Burkina Faso finished joint sixth position with one silver medal each.<\/p>\n

Zone Two president is the head of Niger Boxing Federation Issoufou Abdou Malam who\u2019ll be in charge untill 2026.The new president, who took over from Senegal\u2019s Amadou Lamine Ndiaye in October this year, has extended Gueye\u2019s term in office for the next four years.<\/p>\n

Gueye\u2019s involvement with boxing started in July 2020 when she was elected secretary-general of Senegal Boxing Federation. She has studied sports management and holds a diploma from the International Olympic Committee.In addition to boxing, Gueye is also holder of 4th dan black belt in taekwondo and the first female Senegalese national and international referee in taekwondo.<\/p>\n
