Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. <\/strong><\/span>Head Coach Abdul Rahman Turay of Wusum Stars Football Club representing the Northeast region in the country\u2019s male top-tier league has stated that they are still title contenders in the ongoing league season.<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p>\n

Wusum Stars finished the third position in the previous league and after a slow start in the 2022\/23 season, the club recorded its first win by edging Central Parade to be renamed Wilberforce Football Club 2-0 at home on Sunday, 1st January 2023.<\/p>\n

Foday Mao Kamara opened the scoreline in the match a goal which they maintained throughout the first-half proceedings, and Ibrahim Kargbo doubles the lead to 2-0 earlier in the second half, the victory has taken the club to the tenth (10th) position in the league log with five points out of five matches played recording two draws and two defeats.<\/p>\n

According to NewsFeed Sierra Leone, Coach Abdul Rahman Turay stated that the slow start is connected to goalkeeping but promised a quick bounce back after recording his first league win.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur slow start is because of the injury our stopper sustained and it manifested when we failed to record a clean sheet in our first four matches, but with this victory today we are quickly going to bounce back\u201d he disclosed.<\/p>\n

He called on the fans to remain steadfast and believe in the team as many failed to turn up to rally behind them on New Year\u2019s day and further that they are still a title contender.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe the technical team aware that the fans failed to turn out today because of the slow start, but I want to assure them that we are still leagued contenders and the point margin is not huge\u201d Turay added.<\/p>\n

Wusum Stars FC will travel away to Real Republicans FC who are yet to record a win in the league on Thursday at the Parade field in Freetown.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to still call on stakeholders that reside or hailed from the region to provide financial support to Wusum Stars and as a technical team with our players will continue to give the anticipated result\u201d he concluded.<\/p>\n
