{"id":13772,"date":"2023-01-24T18:04:57","date_gmt":"2023-01-24T18:04:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/sierra-leone\/all-news\/ecsl-awaits-supreme-court-ruling"},"modified":"2023-01-24T18:10:48","modified_gmt":"2023-01-24T18:10:48","slug":"ecsl-awaits-supreme-court-ruling","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/sierra-leone\/all-news\/ecsl-awaits-supreme-court-ruling","title":{"rendered":"ECSL Awaits Supreme Court Ruling"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Sierra-Leone. <\/strong><\/span>Raymond A.N George, the Director of Media and Communications at the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL) has clarified that, the Commission has temporally put on hold the release of the official timeline for the conduct of the June 24 multi-tier elections.<\/p>\n<p><a name=\"aswift_1_host\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This comes as a means of waiting on the Supreme Court to deliver its final ruling on the constitutional matter regarding the use of the district Block\/Proportional Representation (PR) System for the conduct of the parliamentary election he added.<\/p>\n<p>Following the related issue wherein some members of the main opposition, All Peoples Congress Party (APC) and the public ably represented by Dr. Abdulai Conteh and Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara presented an argument before the Supreme Court against the use of the PR system in the upcoming parliamentary election.Presenting their argument that, the PR system is not applicable for the fourth coming elections as there are already existing constituencies in the country as compared to the elections in 1996 and 2002 respectively. That, these to elections were conducted just after the war and at that time boarders were not delimitated no constituency structure were in place.
