Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. <\/strong><\/span>The case between Sierra Leone\u2019s main opposition presidential candidate, Dr. Samura Kamara, and the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has been adjourned to the 14th of July 2023.<\/p>\n

<\/a>\u201cThe General Public is hereby notified that case between the State vs Saidu NALLO, Adikali Foday Suma, Foday Vahfomba Bawoh, Samura Mathew Wilson Kamara, Kandeh Foday Basil Kamara & Jules Sanders Davis before Hon. Justice Adrian Fister (J) has today been adjourned to Friday 14th July, 2023,\u201d the Judiciary of Sierra Leone revealed today in a public notice.<\/p>\n

The main opposition\u2019s presidential hopeful was charged in December 2021, with misappropriation of more than USD 2.5 million in public funds in a case related to the refurbishment of the Chancery Building in the United States while he was serving as the country\u2019s Minister of Foreign Affairs between 2010 and 2017. The ACC accuses him of illegally transferring government funds to foreign accounts and receiving kickbacks from foreign companies in exchange for favorable treatment.<\/p>\n

Kamara, who is running for president under the All People\u2019s Congress (APC) party, has denied the charges and called them politically motivated. He has accused the ruling Sierra Leone People\u2019s Party (SLPP) of using the ACC to target him and other members of the opposition.<\/p>\n

The ACC has been active in pursuing corruption cases since President Julius Maada Bio took office in 2018. The commission has investigated several high-profile cases involving government officials, including former ministers and senior civil servants.<\/p>\n

The adjournment of Samura Kamara\u2019s case could not have significant implications on him for the upcoming presidential election in June, as it will be after the elections. He is seen as a strong contender for the presidency, and an adjournment could not bar him from running for office.<\/p>\n

Despite the adjournment, both sides remain confident in their positions. The ACC has vowed to continue its fight against corruption, while Kamara\u2019s supporters maintain his innocence and his bid to become the next president of Sierra Leone. The 14th of July will be a crucial day in determining the outcome of this high-stakes case.<\/p>\n
