Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. <\/strong><\/span>The Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education has revealed the actual reason over 7,000 students miss out on the West African Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) this year.<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p>\n

According to the Education Ministry, the issue is from school principals who failed to upload eligible candidates for the 2023 exams.<\/p>\n

The Ministry said that the portal officially closed on the 31st March but after several engagements with the West African Examination Council (WAEC) International, they were able to convince them for an extension of the portal in April.Although a total of 228,171 candidates were registered for this year\u2019s exams, 7,450 have very slim chances of taking the exams due to the issue.<\/p>\n

The Education Ministry has pleaded with affected candidates to exercise patience and put their trust in them as they find solutions to the issue.<\/p>\n

WAEC is the body responsible for conducting public exams in Sierra Leone, Liberia, The Gambia, Ghana and Nigeria. The body has already successfully conducted exams for Primary school pupils last Saturday.<\/p>\n
