Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. <\/strong><\/span>President Julius Maada Bio has set forth an ambitious vision for Sierra Leone\u2019s energy sector, focusing on a significant expansion of renewable energy sources.<\/p>\n

Should he secure a second term in office, President Bio is committed to increasing the country\u2019s renewable energy generation from the current 35% to an impressive 80%.<\/p>\n

This pledge was outlined in the People\u2019s Manifesto, a binding agreement between his government and the citizens of Sierra Leone.<\/p>\n

Moreover, President Bio aims to ensure that all 16 locations in the country are fully electrified, bringing the benefits of electricity to every corner of Sierra Leone.<\/p>\n

Additionally, his administration plans to expand access to electricity for households, with the goal of raising the current rate of 31% to a remarkable 80%.<\/p>\n

Recognizing the importance of a robust energy infrastructure, President Bio\u2019s government has set ambitious targets to improve energy availability for the population.<\/p>\n

The plan includes increasing electricity per capita from the existing 55 kilowatt-hours (kWh) to an impressive 250 kWh. This will be achieved through the expansion of electricity transmission lines, extending their reach from the current 740 kilometers to an extensive network spanning 2000 kilometers.<\/p>\n

In line with their commitment to energizing the private sector, the SLPP 2023 Manifesto outlines a strategy to enhance private sector involvement in the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA).<\/p>\n

By doing so, the government aims to reduce the burden on public finances while establishing a comprehensive collection account to enhance transparency and accountability within the energy sector.<\/p>\n

In order to accelerate the development of renewable energy projects, the government plans to establish a dedicated renewable energy fund. This fund will serve as a platform to pool resources from private entities, donor partners, and government funds, enabling the provision of project development grants and tariff support.<\/p>\n

By leveraging these financial resources, Sierra Leone can drive the growth of renewable energy and pave the way for a more sustainable and resilient future.<\/p>\n
