Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. <\/strong><\/span>Some senior members of the main opposition APC party have admitted that they will struggle to get 40% of the valid votes in general elections slated for June 24. They attributed this to lack of funds to effectively campaign across the country. \u201cWe don\u2019t have money…That is the truth of the matter\u201d, they confessed.<\/p>\n

<\/a>According to reliable sources, the party had depended on the former President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma to provide funds for the campaign. \u201cSo far\u201d, they said, \u201cThe former President has only provided US$100,000 as his own contribution to the campaign.\u201d<\/p>\n

It has been confirmed that on the eve of the APC National Delegates\u2019 Conference in Makeni in February this year, former President Koroma sent a delegation of senior party officials to Dr. Samura Kamara, to persuade him not to run for the post of flag bearer. Dr. Samura Kamara reportedly refused, saying that, he believes he is the best candidate to win the June 24 Presidential election.<\/p>\n

The rift between the APC flag bearer and his running mate continues to widen following allegations that they are briefing against each other.<\/p>\n

The SLPP Presidential candidate, Brig. (Rtd) Julius Maada Bio, continues his campaign across the country, winning new converts, especially those leaving the APC party.<\/p>\n

Opinion poll shows that, President Bio is heading for a predictably resounding first round victory avoiding a run-off. He is likely to hit the 60% mark given the momentum that his campaign has taken across the country.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, President Bio is expected to turn up the heat on the APC when he visits Bombali district tomorrow on his campaign trail.<\/p>\n
