Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. <\/strong><\/span>In a bid to dispel rumors circulating on social media, President Julius Maada has urged citizens to disregard false claims of a scheduled protest during his campaign tour in Wilberforce Barracks on Saturday, June 10th, 2023.<\/p>\n

<\/a>The President, speaking on behalf of the Sierra Leone People\u2019s Party (SLPP), emphasized the party\u2019s commitment to maintaining peace and stability in the country, particularly in the lead-up to the general elections on June 24th.<\/p>\n

Addressing the nation, President Bio emphasized that the SLPP is a peaceful party dedicated to safeguarding the lives of all Sierra Leoneans. He pledged to take strong action against anyone attempting to disrupt the peace and tranquility of the nation during the election period.<\/p>\n

vThe President assured the public that those who incite violence and unrest would be apprehended and face severe legal consequences.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are a peaceful party, and we are determined to have a peaceful election. Those planning to undermine the peace of our nation will be arrested, and the full force of the law will be brought upon them to ensure a peaceful electoral process,\u201d President Bio stated firmly.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, President Bio highlighted the proactive measures already taken by his government to address potential threats to peace and stability. He urged all ex-service personnel to refrain from engaging in any form of violence, emphasizing that the people of Sierra Leone are not willing to revisit the horrors of past conflicts.<\/p>\n

\u201cElections should be conducted peacefully. We are weary of violence; we are weary of war. On Monday and Tuesday, everyone should carry on with their normal activities. I will personally lead by example, moving through the streets of Freetown to State House on Monday, to signal that it is business as usual for everyone,\u201d he declared.<\/p>\n

The President also stressed that the government would no longer tolerate violence or indiscipline from any individual, whether within or outside the country.<\/p>\n

President Bio expressed confidence in securing a second term, citing the positive impact of his government\u2019s initiatives on the people of Sierra Leone. He called upon all citizens to maintain the peace and continue working together towards a more prosperous future for the nation.<\/p>\n
