{"id":18973,"date":"2023-06-21T11:56:20","date_gmt":"2023-06-21T11:56:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/sierra-leone\/all-news\/unity-party-takes-pprc-to-court"},"modified":"2023-06-21T12:04:51","modified_gmt":"2023-06-21T12:04:51","slug":"unity-party-takes-pprc-to-court","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/sierra-leone\/all-news\/unity-party-takes-pprc-to-court","title":{"rendered":"Unity Party Takes PPRC to Court"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Sierra-Leone. <\/strong><\/span>One of Sierra Leone\u2019s opposition parties in the 2018 elections, Unity Party, has taken the Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC) to court for stopping them in participating in this year\u2019s elections.<\/p>\n<p><a name=\"aswift_1_host\"><\/a>The PPRC in a letter on 6th April 2023 barred the party from participating in the 2023 elections.<\/p>\n<p>Counsel for the party, Lawyer C. D Davies argued that the suspension by the PPRC on 6 April be set aside because he believed that his client was working within the ambit of the PPRC Code of Conduct.The lawyers added that the PPRC falsely accused the Unity Party of failing to conduct ward, constituency, district and national elections. He affirmed that they did.<\/p>\n<p>Lawyer J.J. Campbell for the PPRC responded that the party missed the actual court for which they should submitted their case.
