Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. <\/strong><\/span>Popular Legal practitioner, Michael Imran Kanu, has been appointed by President Julius Maada Bio, to serve as Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Sierra Leone to the United Nations in New York.<\/p>\n

<\/a>He was appointed and approved by the Parliament of Sierra Leone on the 8th August, 2023.<\/p>\n

Sharing this achievement on Social Media, he expressed appreciation to President Bio, the Speaker of Parliament, Dr. Abass Chernor Bundu, the Majority Leader and Chair of the Committee on Appointments and Public Affairs, Hon. Matthew Sahr Nyuma, and the Honorable Members of Parliament for their excellent work and generous words directed to him in his approval by Parliament.He noted how the commitment of Parliament to its critical work is a cornerstone of our democratic process.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith the approval by Parliament, following the appointment by H.E. the President, I commit to advancing the foreign policy objectives of the State, to protect and promote Sierra Leone\u2019s best interest, and to serve with excellence, professionalism, dynamism and utmost diplomacy as the 20th Permanent Representative of Sierra Leone to the United Nations,\u201d pledged Dr Kanu.<\/p>\n

Dr. Kanu is a skilled and experienced legal practitioner and academic. His main specializations are in commercial law and dispute settlement, corporate law, financial crimes and corruption control, international business law, international human rights and public international law.<\/p>\n

He is a partner in two law firms and was the former Ambassador and Deputy Permanent Representative for Legal Affairs of the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Sierra Leone to the United Nations in New York.<\/p>\n

Prior to his public service sabbatical, he served as Managing Partner of Cole, Kanu & Partners, Prosecutor at the Anti-Corruption Commission in Sierra Leone, Secretary of the General Legal Council (the legal practice regulatory body in Sierra Leone), legal officer, Procredit bank (SL) limited, and visiting associate, banking and finance practice, White & Case LLP (London office) under the international lawyers for Africa (ILFA) secondment program in 2009.<\/p>\n
